The Lead for Narrative and Strategic Communications will drive our work to: 1) shape and reinforce the overarching narrative of an economic RESET consistent with the Imperatives for Economic System Change to Design for Interdependence, Invest for Justice, and Account for Stakeholders; and 2) ensure that narrative is connected to strategic communications and resources that center equity across the Imperative 21 network (I21).

The Lead will accomplish this by building a world-class team to ensure the sustained and deepening engagement and activation of: 1) the communications leads from each I21 steward organization, strategic partners, and a growing network of allies; and 2) the I21 Culture Coalition in a process of co-creation and co-execution of a strategy to use story and data to shift mindsets about how we got here, what challenges we’re facing, and most importantly, what’s possible and what’s attractive for everyone about the future we can create together.

Key Relationships:

  • Strategic Advisor, I21 Culture Coalition (chief impact officer, Participant, Holly Gordon)
  • Conveners, I21 Culture Coalition (Amplifier; Project 17; Provoc)
  • Communications working group of comms leads from each I21 steward organization
  • External partners, as needed, to develop and execute strategy

Location: Flexible and remote, prefer New York Metropolitan Area, available during US Eastern working hours

Responsibilities:

Strategy (20%)

  • Hold or engage subject matter expertise in storytelling, creative development, campaigns, movement building, networks, behavioral psychology, experience design, and gardening
  • Work collaboratively to develop, execute, and adapt narrative and communications strategy, utilizing the full range of activities, tools, platforms, and partnerships
  • Write strategic and creative briefs which define success metrics, scope, timeline, and process for workplan to execute strategy

Partnerships (20%)

  • Work with the CEO and chief of staff to develop and execute a partner and fundraising strategy that acquires the resources needed to fulfill the long term objectives and annual goals of the Culture Coalition and core work related to narrative and strategic communications
  • Manage relationships with world-class partners, including conveners of the Culture Coalition, who can help design and deliver key elements of the strategy and workplan
  • Engagement and activation of comms leads from each steward organization and key allies to ensure visibility and amplification of existing work to advance toward shared vision

Management (60%)

  • Overall project management of team, Culture Coalition, creatives, and other partners to execute workplan
  • Ongoing development of content across digital, social, website, internal and external communications, PR, campaigns, events, experiences
  • Facilitate internal alignment and collaboration meetings
  • Design and facilitate external group experiences (e.g. virtual events, workshops) that grow and engage the I21 network of allies to advance its mission
  • Coordinate day-to-day execution of activations, moments, etc. tied to the RESET campaign
  • Continuously assess impact, make creative and strategic adjustments, and move in new directions
