The GIIN aspires to see increasing numbers of institutional asset owners to adopt systematic approaches to impact investing as an integrated part of their investment strategies. The GIIN’s Capital Mobilization Program will do this by:
- Shifting investors’ understanding and recognition of the scope of impact investing opportunities available to them;
- Guiding and equipping investors to enable them to act; and
- Catalyzing impact investing activity from investors so their peers may follow.
The primary target audiences of this work are institutional investors, i.e., pension funds, insurance companies, endowments, and sovereign wealth funds. The program also has a focus on engaging faith-based investors.
The Institutional Investor Engagement Manager will drive institutional investor engagement with a special focus on building a cohort of investors who are not only committed to advancing an impact investment practice themselves, but also influence and inspire their peers to do the same. The work will require building relationships with the wider asset owner community and managing an advisory group.
He or she will cross-collaborate with other GIIN programs (Research, IRIS-Impact Measurement and Management, and Member Engagement programs) to manage the creation of resources that institutional investors can use to implement impact investing strategies.
Additionally, this position will own the outreach and external communication function in the institutional investment and asset owner space through planning outreach and convening events and through leading, developing and maintaining communication materials that promote and communicate the program.
This position is ideal for candidates who have experience in working with institutional investors, demonstrated success in building new relationships, an interest in developing strategies for achieving change at the industry level, and possess a passion for sustainability and responsible investing. The position will report to the Director that oversees both the Member Engagement and Capital Mobilization programs. The Manager may also manage a junior staff person.
The primary responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Institutional Investor Engagement:
- Engage institutional investors and their industry networks to explain GIIN’s vision for impact investing and its relevance for investors’ strategic investment objectives, including financial and outcome/impact objectives
- Project manage the development of resources for institutional investors; prospective topics include: getting started with impact investing; measuring impact in a credible manner; integrating impact investing and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and assessing impact investment offerings
Outreach/Events:
- Work with external networks that engage institutional investors to enhance offerings and identify synergies in our efforts
- Plan and execute roundtables and other convenings with asset owner community
Note: Outreach will specifically include Japan, Australia, Southeast Asia, and Europe.
External Communication Projects:
- Support grant proposal preparation for the program and subsequent reporting requirements
- Work with GIIN Communications team to identify speaking opportunities and represent that GIIN at external events where needed
